Spartans Scholarship: $3000 pooled for each calendar Year Awarded.

 

To be awarded at the Spartans Annual General Meeting. The first annual award will be made November 2008 to all Spartans registered members (Active members), registered for the 2008-2009 track year.

 

First:

-          Must be a Spartans member one full year (partial year does not count) 

Second

-          Must be a student at a post secondary institution in Calgary

Third:

-          Must be a registered Spartans (active) athlete for the upcoming Track year. Paid in full including volunteer bond.

Fourth:

-          Athlete must apply for Scholarship. Written submission to Board. Email is acceptable.

-          Send application to registrar@calgaryspartans.com

Fifth:

-          Athlete must be member in good standing.

 

Once all four steps are achieved the athlete will be put into a pool with other qualified athletes

The amount awarded will be determined by the following point system to a maximum of $1000 per any individual athlete and a minimum of $100:

-           

-          Club Involvement (This would be a subjective rating done by the board of directors)

o        3 points is for high involvement

o        2 points for standard involvement

o        1 point for minimum involvement

-          Club Longevity  (1 point for every consecutive year as an Active member of Spartans) – Maximum 3 points

-          Performance Aspect

o        AADP

§         3 points for “A” standard

§         2 points for “B” standard

§         1 point for “C” standard

o        Provincial Placing (Athletics Alberta Provincial, not High School)

§         Gold is 3 points

§         Silver is 2 points

§         Bronze is 1 point

o        National Placing

§         Medalist is 3 points

§         Top 8 is 2 point

§         Finishing is 1 point

Once all points are added up, the money would be distributed based on percentage of total points given out.

First example: 3 athletes total points add to 18.

John Smith receives 10 of a possible 18 points (10/18th of the scholarship)

Betty White receives 6 of a possible 18 point (6/18th of the Scholarship)

John White receive 2 of a possible 18 points (2/18th of the scholarship)

 

Second Example: 5 athletes apply with a total of 32 points

John Smith receives 11 of the 32 point total = 11/32 of $3000 = $1000 

Betty White receives 8 of a possible 32 point = 8/32nd of $3000 = $750  

John White receive 7 of a possible 32 points (7/32nd of the scholarship) = $656

Betty John receives 5 points of a possible 32 (5/32nd of the scholarship) = $468

Betty Smith receives 1 of a possible 32 points (1/32nd of $3000 = Less than $100 and is not awarded
