Sprints and Hurdles – Age 14+
NCCP Certifications: Club Coach (Sprints and Hurdles) Trained
Originally from the U.S., Ken is an ex-track athlete who competed in sprints, long hurdles, shuttle hurdle relay and as alternate on the 4 x 400m relay team. As a member of a small school team of 63 athletes, and with little coaching, Ken still managed to reach 3rd best hurdler in the state of Kentucky.
Wanting other athletes to have every possible opportunity to succeed inspired Ken to begin his own coaching career. He began with the Calgary Warriors Track Club in 2017, coaching both his own son, Ryan, as well as other athletes. With 13 years of service in the U.S. Army, two tours as a Drill Instructor, and as a combat veteran of operation Desert Storm, he knows what it takes to be successful. This helped him instill the needed discipline for track and the mental attitude to develop athletes as winners. While also training other athletes, his work with his own son in hurdles helped Ryan achieve his goal to be number one in Canada – which he did several times.
Ken met Spartans Coach Llew Edwards at a track meet. He was intrigued with Llew’s knowledge of bio-mechanics and his viewpoints of sprints and hurdles. Being self taught, Ken wants to round out his own knowledge by working with Llew and so made the decision to join Spartans in spring of 2022. Ken is looking forward to assisting the Spartans in developing some top athletes on the Provincial and National levels.
Our Athlete Coordinator will be pleased to welcome you to the Calgary Spartans, help you find the right coach and program, advise you on what to bring to the track and answer any questions you may have.
Any changes to the schedule will be communicated by Coach Llew to all group members.
