Alex is a recent arrival from Nova Scotia; moving here to be closer to his family. In his own words, “it was very difficult to leave behind a very special group of athletes, but I’m now finding great groups in both club and school cross country here in Calgary”.
Alex graduated from university with both a BSc (Major in Math) from STFX as well as an MPE (Specialization in Sport Psychology). He spent many years as a mathematics and physical education teacher, coaching numerous different school sports at the junior and high school levels.
Alex has a reputation for being a very positive person who gets along well with everyone and works well with different types of athletes and coaches. His primary strengths are as a teacher and a positive motivator.
Alex’s goals are for his athletes to have fun and learn. He believes in treating every athlete as an individual and strives to develop programs that meet their individual needs and goals. His philosophy is that “you teach, coach and mentor young people. You do not coach a sport. You coach young people. The sport happens to be track and cross country”. He also believes that the coach takes care of the process, and the results take care of themselves. It’s about “helping the athletes be the best they can be, enjoy the whole team dynamic, and above all, have fun!”
